01 / Overview
Making personal finances easier to understand.
Budget Buddy was created to help users track and monitor their budget by bringing income, spending, transaction categories, visual analysis, and financial goals together in one mobile application.
Users can enter their income and spending information, organize purchases into categories, and use charts to better understand spending habits and trends.
The Problem
Financial data is easy to record but harder to understand.
Young adults may know how much they earn or spend, but simply recording transactions does not always make it easy to recognize habits, understand categories, or determine whether they are progressing toward financial goals.
The Solution
Turn transactions into visual financial feedback.
Budget Buddy combines transaction entry, categories, income, goal tracking, and financial charts so users can see how their money is being used instead of relying only on raw transaction lists.
02 / Core Features
01
Transaction Tracking
Users can enter spending information and store individual transactions.
02
Income Tracking
Income or allowance can be recorded to give spending data useful financial context.
03
Categories
Purchases can be organized into categories to make spending easier to analyze.
04
Bar Charts
Bar graph visualizations help users examine spending data and financial patterns.
05
Pie Charts
Category-based pie charts provide another way to understand where money is going.
06
Goal Progress
Progress visuals help users monitor their movement toward financial goals.
03 / Product
From transactions
to analysis.
Budget Buddy turns stored financial information into practical views for transaction management, spending analysis, and account monitoring.
04 / How It Works
Connecting users,
transactions, and data.
01
User Authentication
A user creates an account or signs in through the Supabase authentication system.
02
Transaction Input
The user enters financial information such as transactions and spending data.
03
Supabase Storage
Transaction information is stored in Supabase and associated with the user's unique ID.
04
Data Processing
Stored financial data is retrieved and prepared for use throughout the application.
05
Visual Analysis
React Native Chart Kit turns the financial information into charts and progress visuals.
05 / Technology
React Native
Used to build the mobile application interface and overall application experience.
Supabase
Handled authentication, user sessions, transaction storage, and database integration.
React Native Chart Kit
Used to create bar graphs, pie charts, and progress-based financial visualizations.
06 / Challenges
Building the app meant
learning through problems.
Supabase RLS
Row Level Security repeatedly created issues when editing and pushing data to the transaction table.
Navigation
Navigation became more complicated once authentication and the Supabase-backed application structure were introduced.
Financial Analysis
The team wanted to add deeper ways to break down financial information, but project time constraints limited how far the analysis could be expanded.
07 / What I Learned
More than building
a budgeting app.
Budget Buddy gave me experience working across the full flow of an application — connecting user input to a database, retrieving and transforming financial information, visualizing that data, and debugging the problems that appear when several technologies need to work together.
